Andrew's Planets

All the pictures here have been copied from Bill Arnett's Nine Planets Page.

I will put my own drawings here soon.

Our Solar sytem has nine planets. It is called the Solar system because all the Planets go around the sun (solar).

Click on the planet you would like to visit:

Mercury | Venus | Earth | Mars | Jupiter | Saturn | Uranus | Neptune | Pluto

The Sun

The Sun is not a planet. It is a star.

The Sun is in the middle of the Solar System. It is like a big ball of fire which burns all the time. It is so far away from the Earth that it takes 8 minutes for the light from the Sun to get to the Earth.

All the living things on Earth would die if the Sun wasn't there. If you were in another solar system the Sun would look just like a star.

Mercury

Mercury is the name of the planet which is closest to the Sun. It is very hot on Mercury because it is so close to the Sun.

Venus

I am still finding out things about Venus.

Earth

Of course, we all know what Earth looks like! It has one moon which spins around it. The Earth spins around itself once every 24 hours, and goes once around the Sun each year.

Mars

Mars is a planet which is a bit like Earth.

This year scientists found some rocks from Mars that had some fossils inside them. This means that there might have been some living things on Mars.

Next year a rocket is going to Mars to do some exploring.

Jupiter

I am still finding out things about Jupiter.

Saturn

Saturn has lots of rings around it. These rings are made from ice and dust. Saturn is cold because it is along way from the Sun.

Uranus

I will put some things about Uranus here soon.

I am drawing a picture of Uranus.

Neptune

I am still finding out some things about Neptune.

Pluto

Pluto is a very small planet. Scientists worked out that Pluto was there by using Maths, because you can't see it using telescopes.

It is the planet which is the furthest from the Sun.
